7.1.1.6 Welding procedures using the SMAW process or other processes not listed in this specification may he used if qualified using one of the methods in 7.1.2 and with the approval of the Engineer or Owner. In addition, the weld quality acceptance criteria of 7.1.3 shall apply.
7.1.2 Alternative Welding Procedure Qualification Methods. Each Manufacturer shall be responsible for the choice of qualifying method.
7.1.2.1 Method I — Standard Welding Procedure Specifications (SWPS). Standard Welding Procedure Specifications published by the AWS B2 committee on Procedure and Performance Qualification are considered to he qualified in accordance with this specification within the limits of 7.1.7.
7.1.2.2 14Iethod II — Standard Tests.
(a) For the GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, PAW, SAW, and SW processes. welding procedure qualification shall be by standard test weidment as required in AWS B2.11B2. I M, Specification fir Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification, except that the qualification and WPS data variables of 7.1.7 shall apply.
(b) For the Friction Welding (FRW) process. welding procedure qualification shall be by standard test weldment as required in AWS C6.2/C6.2M, Specifi cation for Friction Welding of Metals.
(c) For Projection Welding (PW), welding procedure qualification shall he by standard test weldment as required in AWS Cl .4/Cl .4M, Specifi cation for Resistance Welding of carbon and LDW-AIlOV Steels.
(d) For all other processes, the procedure qualification and WPS data variables of B2.1/B2.1M. Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification shall apply.
7.1.2.3 Method III — Weld Sectioning and Micro-Hardness. As an alternative to welding procedure qualification by standard test as given in AWS B2. 11B2. I M, welding procedures may be qualified by visual examination of a minimum of two cross-sections of the completed weld and a minimum of two micro-hardness tests of the completed weld. One cross- section and Micro-Hardness test shall be taken as close as possible to the initial start where the weld achieves full size.
7.1.2.4 Method IV — Prototype. As an alternative to welding procedure qualification by standard test as given in AWS B2. I/B2. I M, welding procedures may he qualified by prototype testing such as accelerated life testing as agreed upon by the Owner and the Manufacturer. AWS D14.9/D14.9M:2013 pdf free download.
