3 Definitions
The following definitions apply in this Standard:
Air-blown asphalt — an asphalt produced by blowing air through molten asphalt or asphaltic flux at an elevated temperature.
Built-up roofing — a functionally continuous, flexible membrane of saturated or saturated and coated felts, fabrics, or mats assembled on a roof with a bituminous plying cement.
Equiviscous temperature (EVT) — Mechanical spreader application — any temperature within the range of ± 14 °C (± 25°F) of
the temperature at which the viscosity of the asphalt, when measured at the point of application of the asphalt to the substrate, is 75 centipoise (cp).
Mop application — any temperature within the range of ± 14 °C (± 25°F) of the temperature at which the viscosity of the asphalt, when measured at the point of application of the asphalt to the substrate, Is 125 cp.
Primer — a liquid bituminous material applied to structural surfaces to seal and promote adhesion of subsequently applied heavier applications of bituminous materials for dampproofing. waterproofing, or roofing.
Waterproofing — treatment of a surface or structure to prevent passage of water under hydrostatic pressure.
4 Physical requirements
Note: ASTM 0 312 may be consulted for additional information on roofing asphalts. ASTM D 449 may be consulted for additional information on dampproofing and waterproofing asphalts,
