6.2.1.1
The life cycle test for nonrecirculating toilets without automatic controls shall be conducted as follows:
(a) Install the specimen in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
(b) Subject the specimen to 5000 full flush cycles.
6.2.1.2
The life cycle test for nonrecirculating toilets with automatic controls shall be conducted as follows
(a) Test the specimen in accordance with Clause 6.2.1 .1 but at a minimum flowing pressure of 1 38 kPa (20 psi).
(b) Upon completion of the 5000 cycles, subject the specimen to an additional 10 cycles of operation at a flowing pressure of 55 kPa (8 psi).
6.2.2
The life cycle test for vacuum toilet systems shall be conducted as follows:
(a) Assemble the vacuum toilet system in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, using the recommended maximum elevations and horizontal lengths.
(b) Subject the system to 1000 cycles (50% duty) at a minimum flowing pressure of 55 kPa (8 psi) at the inlet.
(c) Upon completion of the cycle tests, subject the vacuum toilet to testing in accordance with Clause 6.4.
6.3 Mechanical seal mechanism test
After completion of the test specified in Clause 6.2, the mechanical seal mechanism shall be tested by placing the specimen in a normal operating position and filling the bowl with water to the overflow.
6.4 Vacuum integrity test
Vacuum toilets and related components shall be tested for static vacuum-pressure at the nominal operating vacuum with refill water in the bowl.
6.5 Corrosion resistance test
Metallic parts shall be tested in accordance with ASTM 811 7 and as follows:
(a) Wipe clean the plated surfaces using a soft cloth and solvent (e.g., clear naphtha, gasoline, or clear paint thinner). Do not use an abrasive.
(b) Hang the specimens in the test cabinet for 24 h using hangers that will not be affected by the salt fog. Take care not to touch or contaminate the cleaned surfaces.
(c) Immediately after opening the test cabinet at the conclusion of the 24 h test period, wash each specimen under cold running water and dry. Do not rub the specimens during washing, drying, or before examination.
