17.6.1 General
All cables shall conform to the requirements for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2.
If, in addition to this, for cables with 2 cores, 3 cores, 4 cores, 5 cores or 7 cores, with a measured 20 mm overall diameter or above, the manufacturer wishes to claim that the cables conform to requirements for fire resistance category F30, F60 or F120, the cables shall be tested in accordance with, and conform to the requirements specified in 17.6.3, 17.6.4 or 17.6.5. as applicable.
When fire resistance category F30 is being claimed, then the manufacturer shall test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 and fire resistance category F30 as specified in 17.6.3. When fire resistance category F30 is being claimed, then the test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 shall only be tested as test category T and not as test category S.
When fire resistance category F60 is being claimed, then the manufacturer shall test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 and fire resistance category F60 as specified in 17.6.4. When fire resistance category F60 is being claimed, then the test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 shall only be tested as test category T and not as test category S.
When fire resistance category F120 is being claimed, then the manufacturer shall test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 and fire resistance category F120 as specified in 17.6.5. When fire resistance category F120 is being claimed, then the test for fire resistance category F2 as specified in 17.6.2 shall only be tested as test category T and not as test category S.
17.6.2 Category F2
The complete cable shall be tested in accordance with BS 6387, Clause 6 and shall withstand 950 DC for 3 h at a rated voltage of 600/1 000 V without rupture of the 3 A fuse or circuit breaker and with no loss of continuity.
Additionally, complete cables of a diameter not exceeding 20 mm, shall be tested in accordance with BS 6387, Clause 7 and Clause 8 and shall conform to the requirements for protocol W and protocol Z at a rated voltage of 600/1 000 V. For complete cables of a diameter exceeding 20 mm the same requirements shall be met, subject to the additional provisions given in Annex I of this British Standard.
17.6.3 Category F30
